The First 100 Years1995

Subtitled "a celebration of American movies" this compilation documentary was produced for HBO with the association of the American Film Institute as part of the worldwide salute to the 100th anniversary of motion pictures. The film uses extensive historical and new interviews, from D.W. Griffith and Lillian Gish to important actors and directors of today, and hundreds of clips from well-known films to effectively tell the story of the American film. An entertaining primer on commercial American movie history and an exercise in stimulating and dynamic filmmaking. All producer's rental proceeds go to the American Film Institute.
