IN MEMORIUM
MARJORIE KELLER

Filmmaker, teacher, longtime member and President of the FMC Board of Directors from 1987 to 1988, Marjorie died suddenly on February 17, 1994. Her support for the principles of experimentation and independence in film art and for openness and inclusivity in guiding the Coop, one of her projects was for FMC to acquire the 501(c)3, were inspiring to those who knew her. Marjorie was unstinting in her support for artists and the FMC. Her commitment, intelligent action and unselfish efforts saw FMC through many extremely difficult years and many changes.

We extend our sympathy to her surviving husband, P. Adams Sitney, her beautiful daughters and to the rest of the family. We also thank her family for their generousity and considerable support in estabishing a Memorial in Margie's name, with tributes being donated to the Film-Makers' Cooperative.

AT LAST!!!
FMC RECEIVES FEDERAL TAX EXEMPT STATUS

FMC has been granted Federal tax exempt status a 501(c)3 status by the Treasury Department of the U.S. government. This means that the Coop does not have to pay City, State or Federal taxes, that FMC will be eligible for more grants, and that we may accept donations and contributions which are tax deductable to the full extent of the law.

FMC expresses gratitude to Ralph Walters, a Volunteer Lawyer for the Arts, for his brilliance, generousity, and hard work on the application. Also, M.M. Serra deserves
appreciation for her perservance and deligience throughtout the 4 year long process.

CITY TAXES FROM THE 80'S PAID. SLATE CLEARED.

FMC has been haunted by past failures to pay all required governmental taxes. In the last newsletter, members were informed that NYC General Corporate taxes were past due, including heavy penalties and fines, from 1987 to 1990 (requiring $10,000 in all).

Because of our prompt action and our having refiled years of old tax forms, NYC reduced the penalities and fines but we paid nearly $2000 in back taxes. We are at last paid up. However, in order to achieve this, FMC's operating account has suffered a reduction at a time when we can ill afford it and the suffering is being paid by our current staff person and bare bones operation.
