Train Fixation (1977) 16mm, black and white, 10 min

Keywords: Art & Artists

Four parallel train tracks-the urban landscape beyond is 'masked' and 're-framed' by the doors, windows, gaps between cars, of the passing trains. Camera runs only as train passes--time is re-constituted according to railway schedules. --J. D.-S.

Rotunda (1980) 16mm, color & b/w, 11 min

Genre: Experimental, Installation

Keywords: Landscape & Architecture

Twin-screen, dual-projection film. Here the image is re-framed and masked by an architectural 'system' -- the columns of the rotunda -- which is interpolated between camera and landscape. Relations between indeterminacy -- what is framed/masked -- and pattern -- arbitrary camera movement and editing systems -- is further multiplied by the play between the two screens.

Two projectors with matching lenses and light outputs should be used. Images should be of equal size and arranged side by side -- edges touching but not overlapping. Sound track is on the color print which should be shown on the left. Prints should be synchronised at the head of the leaders which should be shown and the projectors started simultaneously -- no further synchronisation is necessary. -JDS
