Akran (1969) DVD_NTSC, BW, 118 min

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Robert Ohlrich, Pat Myers
Electronic music by Fred Coulter
"... a work of ambition and great technical virtuosity ... there is enough going on in AKRAN to command anyone's attention. And much of that is lovely and wonderfully difficult with regard for strange nuances that is one of the pleasures of the movies." -Roger Greenspun, New York Times

Three films by Richard Myers (1961, 1964 and 1965 ) DVD_NTSC, BW, 20, 24 and 23 min

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

The Path 1961
The Path "...light as the symbol of the ineffable. The 'plot' of this subjective recreation of a dream seems to concern a mysterious journey; the spectator. However, is visually directed towards forms and substances rather than to the protagonists by a filmmaker who is a master of visionary cinema." -Amos Vogel, Film as a subversive Art
First Time Here 1964
..."Major discovery of the Ann Arbor Film Festival" -Pauline Kael, Film critic and author
"First Time Here" is both fascinating and deeply disturbing. Perhaps it is a form of prophesy. I would gladly see it many times more." -Wm. S. Doan, Dir. The Film Center, Hull House, Chicago
Coronation 1965
Music:Fred Coulter /Costumes: James M. Someroski
"Richard Myers is one of the most talented and one of the most unknown filmmakers in the country. Personally and geographically isolated from the hysterical film propaganda machine. We seldom hear his name; aside from the Ann Arbor Film Festival, we never see his films...Myers's Coronation ranks with the two or three very best experimental films of 1965" -George Manupelli, dir. The Ann Arbor Film Festival.

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Robert Ohlrich, Jake Leed, Mary Leed, Pat Myers
Music by Fred Coulter
" An American Gothic Horror tale..." -David Bienstock, Whitney Museum
"I do not hesitate to state that I consider it one of the really great "Personal" films and certainly the most important film to come from the experimental cinema in the last few years...and it contains the universal mythic sense that both Emshwiller's RELATIVITY and Markopoulos' TWICE A MAN evoke. Films that involve you, each in their own way, in a living experience." -Bob Cowan, Take One Magazine

Jungle Girl (1984) DVD_NTSC, BW , 100 min

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Mary Leed, Jake Leed, Marjory Myers
"Jungle Girl is experimental film master Richard Myers' intensely personal tribute to Frances Gifford, star of the Republic Pictures serial of the 1940's. A gentle dream/memory work of haunting visual beauty, and as original as Cocteau, it helps to know Myers' stock company, mostly family members, but even if you don't, this homage to the brave Frances Gifford is absorbing as much for its backstage look at Hollywood as for it's brilliant dream sequences." - Sheila Benson, Los Angeles Times

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Jake Leed, Kelly Myers, Mary Leed, Marjory Myers, 'Da' Croft
"I think 37-73 is an extraordinary work, and the best of Myers' longer films. I am astonished by his skill in image making, and his power to evoke the crazy pain of being an artist. It is a haunting work, with unforgettable scenes." -James Broughton, Poet and Filmmaker

"Myers makes highly surreal works of art that invite participation. "Floorshow" reveals a filmmaker who seemingly can express any state of mind with impact and eloquence." - Kevin Thomas, Los Angles Times Jan 12, 1980

Moving Pictures (1989) DVD_NTSC, BW , 90 min

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Nancy Scott, Robert Mayer, Louisa Takahashi
"This is a fun movie, with a wealth of amusing juxtapositions of objects, backgrounds, actors, dialogue, sounds, and narration. Although divided into sections, Moving Pictures is unified by the orchestrations of repetitions and variations. Landscapes and objects reappear in new configurations; characters invade unlikely scenes. THings seem familiar and yet make no sense. That is, after all, how dreams work." - Frank Green, writer and artist, Cleveland, Ohio

Monstershow (1996) DVD_NTSC, BW , 90 min

Genre: Narrative, Experimental

Cast: Alan Benson, Paul Schuster, Marjory Myers
"We see a small traveling show performing in various outdoor Ohio locals; actors do scenes from frankenstein, Dracula, and Jekyll and Hyde. Myers intercuts clips from old movies, including versions of the same three stories; as well as footage from his own effort -a "Frankenstein" begun when he was 12. All of these elements are deftly combined to interpenetrate rather than collide; the banker's voice often continues when the old movies begin so that he seems to be narrating them as well. The result is that present and past, the personal and the public, Hollywood and amateur theater all seem to meld. Myer's sensuous, grainy black and white cinematography- is the key to the film's tone and meaning." -Fred Camper, Chicago Reader
