Three Films: Pixiescope/ The Waifen Maiden/ Consume (2003) 16mm, color, 16 min

Genre: Experimental

Features: PIXIESCOPE (2003) 5min Color/ Sound- Music by Molto Vox, Kevin Barnard on guitars and processing and Barbara Jaspersen on vocals. A film that seems to be partially created by the magic that only pixies can create. I went out shooting with my Bolex with the intention of shooting a series of very short one second movies. When the film was returned to me by the lab I discovered that superimposes over the images I had shot were images that I did not shoot. There appeared superimposed images of various women flexing their muscles and posing for some unknown camera person besides myself. This film is a result and a sort of homage to pixies wherever they may be. THE WAIFEN MAIDEN (2003) 45sec Color / Sound.- Starring Zhanna. Gamaya ("Lead Us") a Sanskrit mantra performed by Zhanna, recorded and mastered by Zak May. This is a haiku and offers a prelude to CONSUME CONSUME (2003) 12min Color / Sound.- Starring Zhanna. Pomolusya ("I Will Pray") Ukranian Prayer performed by Zhanna, recorded and mastered by Zak May. Excepts from "Lyrical" and "Chaos" from the tribe recording of Gabrielle Roth and the Mirrors with permission from Raven Recording Inspired by the novel FLICKER by Theodore Roszak, this film was intended to explore the images captured in the flickering light of multiple projector beams. By utilizing superimpositions within the camera, one could experience the pulsating light and explore hidden imagery through use of the "Sally Rand" that Roszak refers to. However, once production began...the projector beams began to put both myself and my actress into a trance state due to the strobe light it presented...the resulting film turned into a trance by natural evolution and in essence the film becomes even more... It becomes an exploration into oneself and the sense of seeing and being at the same time...both an inward journey and an outward one...

Chinese Series (2003) 16mm, color, silent, 2 min

Genre: Experimental

On the negative, it seemed to have the essence of Chinese characters -- "strokes" and blocks, etc. In motion, it seems almost like running though a humid bamboo forest (not that I've personally had much experience) -- green and yellow stalks create these glowing shadows as they cut across the sunlight... symbols magically transformed to landscape through light and motion.

Sewn Film Performance (2003)

I cut several Super-8 films that I had previously made into one or two foot strips. I then altered them through means of handcraft: I sewed bits of fabric onto them, and painted them, and cut some of them in half vertically in order to sew mis-matched halves together. The performance consisted of a live video of my hands feeding strips of Super-8 film into a film projector- this video image was shown to the left of the projected film strips. The soundtrack was simply the sound of the film projector's motor. The video provides documentation of the performance, and shows what the audience saw. During the duration of the performance, I was positioned on the floor, sitting within the crowd.

Bruce Elder

Bruce Elder (2003) 16mm, color, sound, 106 min

Genre: Experimental

Keywords: Environment & Nature

Chemical transformations of the image are wedded with electrical modifications to produce a fantasia of vibrantly colored alchemical forms that suggest an erotic wonder at all the world's surfaces, including many historical sites in Germany, the subject of Elder's boyhood fantasies, and of vineyards in Europe and America, which Elder uses as the sign of the goodness of the created world. The use of aleatory processes extends this faith into the making of the film. The subject of the film is what is gained, and what is lost, through these transformations.... The loss of innocence is wedded to the deepening of wisdom (and while we appreciate the ultimate richness such transformations bring, we also mourn what is lost in the process). Modern technologies are used to the ends of Magick.

Radiant Emanators (2003) DVD NTSC, color, sound, 19 min

Genre: Animation

Keywords: Literature & Theater

A holy scripture appears floating in outer space. It is covered with text, copiously illustrated, and refers to a wide range of fanciful incidents, including Walt Whitman's trip down the Long Island Expressway, the trials of a pregnant teenager, and ballerinas who stuff their toe shoes with newspaper, among many other things. An illuminated manuscript, based on a fully improvised performance, Radiant Emanators mediates on the effect of uneven sources of light on written texts, and on the way our uneven readings of our own cultural texts determine our views on genocide, sexual freedom, and our general consciousness
