About

A documentary produced in the Philippines; a first film by all concerned; filmed on Sundays using short ends and contributed raw stock; edited manually and painstakingly. It tells the story of Navotas, Rizal province, a fishing village on the outskirts of Manila where the lives of the people are inexorably bound to the sea. It deals specifically with the rituals surrounding a death in the village and of how, in the midst of death, the villagers celebrate life with songs, games and food – a practice slowly disappearing, just as the village is slowly being engulfed by the metropolis.
