Silkscreen
About
These Japanese master silkscreen painters were beautiful to watch, and I filmed them to watch them better and to create a document. Again, this film has definite content. I felt obliged to shoot so that one could see clearly what was happening in front of the camera, but at the same time, I wanted to make a moving picture that had my own imagining as its source. SILKSCREENS is based on the rhyhm and the precise, repetitive movements of the printers and the printing process, and on the graphic lines not only of the image they were producing but also of the one I was making with my camera. I used the close up alot, to build meaning from detail, because it isolates the records while giving a clear, graphic image that can leave representation aside. –K. M.
