Biography

Mary Billyou’s film practice accesses cultural memory by directing attention to the limits of institutional frames. Re-ordering anonymous authoritative directives, her early filmmaking experience was within the feminist counter-cinema Joanie4Jackie. Screenings include: Sundance, Images Festival, Spectacle Theater, Rotunda Gallery, Moviate, Experimental Superstars and Film Mutations. She has been awarded filmmaking grants from The Jerome Foundation, NYSCA, Experimental Television Center, and Outpost. Billyou received her MFA in Film, Video, and New Media from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and attended The Whitney Independent Study Program.
