Biography

Perlman has most recently created science fiction film shorts  (2015 to present) scripting, directing, and editing. Work’s been shown at Film Archives, NYC, Lake Placid Film Festival, WRPN TV Global and Petzel Gallery, NYC

Perlman made 110%, a feature documentary about US Women’s Ski Jumping and its exclusion from the 2010 Olympics. The film premiered on Norway’s WNRK TV (2011).  An earlier ski jump short was acquired by ESPN (2004) as the extreme sport of the month.

Perlman’s Merchant, about immigration (10 min.) received help from a Puffin Foundation Grant (2005).  Perlman completed a documentary Jane Smith 2000 (30 min).  This portrait of a Diva is in the collection of Harvard University (2001).

Perlman exhibited her sculpture and paintings in New York and European galleries (1980-90’s).  She made set designs from 1983-93, working with William Forsythe’s Ballet Frankfurt. Her sets appeared at NYC Ballet, Vienna State Opera, Frankfurt Opera and others. Perlman received a Guggenheim and a Pollock-Krasner Grant, both in sculpture.

Perlman was part of an artist collective COLAB (1978-83). She directed 2 Super 8 films, POOFO, an adventure film, and TOPLESS, a porn docudrama. Both were shown at the Edinburgh Film Festival. Perlman made a 30-second spot for WNEW TV, NYC, about The Times Square Show, the notorious art show organized by COLAB that launched Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Perlman earned her BFA from RISD.
