Description
On Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at 6pm, the Film-Makers' Cooperative is thrilled to present a screening of the short films of Zorko Sirotić that will be followed by a lecture about cooperatives by Goran Jeras, an environmentalist and International Chief Technical Advisor of the Green Energy Cooperative.
Zorko Sirotić was born in Zagreb in 1985. He is a member of Kinoklub Zagreb and has been its production coordinator since 2014. In 2018, he graduated with a degree in film and television directing from the Department of Documentary Film of the Academy of Dramatic Art in Zagreb. He has made documentary, fiction, and experimental films, and gained television experience working on commercials. He runs and mentors numerous workshops focused on alternative film and experimental-documentary forms.
Goran Jeras is an expert on sustainable finance, cooperatives, and the sustainable development of local communities. He is the manager of the Cooperative for Ethical Financing in Croatia, an organization working on the foundation of the first European digital ethical bank with a 100% sustainable portfolio. After studying physics in Zagreb, Jeras moved to the Netherlands and started working as a consultant for large financial institutions. In 2010, frustrated with the behavior and failings of commercial banks and an economic system unable to ensure fair distribution of wealth, sustainable development, and the needs of people in general, he started researching and developing alternative financial and business models for local communities based on the principles of economic democracy, trust, collaboration, solidarity, protection of common goods and spaces, and the sustainable use of resources. From 2015 to 2018, Jeras was member of GECES (EC Expert Group on Social Entrepreneurship) and since 2016 has been a Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the United States.
Jeras will talk about the importance of cooperative business models in ensuring transformation of the economy with positive social and environmental impacts. He will also address the role of community banks as the cornerstones of the development of this new economic system.
Sirotić and Jeras will be visiting from Croatia.
