About

Landscape: The Call is Real depicts benign scenes from an amusement park while the audio is a 2012 911 double-murder confession of a 17-year-old, Jake Evans. The film is composed of the stark disparity of the amusement park and zoo scenes, where perhaps Jake should have been, and the life-changing event that preceded his calm but horrifying 911call. The 911 operator should be commended for her soothing and nurturing demeanor during the call. Jake is serving two concurrent 45-year sentences for the murders.

This is an original found-footage piece filmed mostly at Carolina Beach, North Carolina, in June 2018, and some at the Columbia, South Carolina zoo. The 911 call recording is the actual 911 call following the murder of Jake Evans’ mother and sister. The original recording (~25 min.) was sped up to remove silence in the call and to make it sound more conversational in tone.

WARNING: This film might not be suitable for all audiences due to the graphic nature of its audio content.
