"TRANSYLVANIA 1917 is a multi-faceted WWI biography–a conscript into the Austro-Hungarian army is wounded and abandoned by his comrades, then shipped as a prisoner of war into Russia during the Revolution. Using dramatic visual effects, the film explores the rich ambiguities of Transylvanian myth and history. Images from pop, folk and high cultures, politics and religion infuse the film with multiple levels of meaning. –P. D.
