Petrified: A Moving Painting 2023

A surrealistic auditory & visual dream. 

1970's Ektachome, Super 8 found footage, hand developed at home. The smears of texture collide with light revealing a dream like sequence of driving past a forest or surfing the waves of a blue Hawaii. 

Instead of taking shelter, I added audio I recorded during the tornado of April 2023. When combining the audio, I noticed it was too distinct for the devastation and chaos what struck our small Iowa and Illinois towns. So I layered six different tracks and added reverb. The collision resembles a "white noise" of a hustle and bustling city. All while the visuals relax your thoughts taming this once horrific act of Mother Nature.
