ACE Number 5, (A Gift) (Red version)1974

ACE Number 5 (A Gift) is the first in a series of non-objective film experiments aimed at extending the limits of Abstract Expressionist painting. It was seminal, in that unexpected results of camerawork led to the refinement of imagery in the following twelve films by Bruce Wood. Originally black and white, several color variants were produced by the artist using a laborious step printing method. This is the "red" one. Color experimentation was abandoned in the following works, which rely on the simplicity of unaltered black and white direct from the camera.
