Screening
Anarchy Artists: Jack Smith, José Rodríguez-Soltero, Tempest Creation
Stone Circle Theatre, 59-14 70th Ave, Ridgewood, NY 11385

On Wednesday, July 30th, at 8pm, The Film-Makers' Cooperative collaborates with Ridgewood Community Cinema to present, on 16mm, two anarchic queer classics from our collection by Jack Smith and José Rodríguez-Soltero, in addition to the contemporary short film "Annarchy Artist" by Tempest Creation.
Flaming Creatures (1963) follows an ensemble of drag performers through several disconnected vignettes, including a lipstick commercial, an orgy, and an earthquake.
Lupe (1966) — an underseen classic queer work with a mix of music, colors, abstract scenes and limited dialogue — is based loosely on the life and death of Mexican-American actress Lupe Velez.
Annarchy Artist (2024) is a short documentary that observes a day in the life of the eponymous performer as she unveils the childhood roots of her artistic practice as a nightlife gogo dancer and drag queen.
