Dance and cinema have been inextricably linked ever since Thomas Edison turned his kinetoscope on Anabelle Moore in the hypnotic Serpentine Dance (1895). Since then, many filmmakers and choreographers have collaborated in search of a new artistic form that combines the essential elements of dance and cinema.

In this program from our archives, we trace how filmmakers have explored dance to create an altogether distinct language of film choreography.
