Ceremony
About
CEREMONY is an occult fairy tale played out in a fantasy world between the mundane and the supernatural. The Sleeping Beauty quest is transposed to late 1960s - early 1970s Northern California with a subplot that becomes a proto-ecological visual commentary on the complex inter-relationships between nature and technology. The film describes environments as an esthetic frontier between the desirable and the intolerable. In some places the metaphor is blatant through interpretations of sculptures, close-ups of computer innards and architecture. The story is populated by mysterious beings who can't seem to find each other, either in the real life play they are performing, or in the dreamworld where we frequently watch them trying to sort out what's real and what isn't.–-G.
