Stills
About
visual art practice on light, color, space and transformation of space. The series started with the video pieces Colour Kinesthesia I and II with sound by composer JG Thirlwell with 5:1 channel surround sound (2009-2011) shown at The Museum of Modern Art Ukraine (2009), Kvinesdal Kunsthall Norway (2011), ThisIsNotAGallery, Buenos Aires (2011).
Colour Synesthesia Variation I-VII (2010-2014) The Locker Plant Projections (a site specific installation at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa, TX, 2010 with sound by JG Thirlwell that later became a new video work in 2011),The Kinesthesia of Saint Brigid (2011), Projections of the Surreal (2012), a site specific installation at the Surreal Gardens- Edward James Foundation in Mexico ( this documentation also became a film in its own right), are all part of a larger body of works that examine the phenomenology and the notions of sensorial experiences of light, color and sound, ocular perceptions and spatial relations, through multi channel projections, re recording and documentation of projections and the dimensional properties of surround sound. In Colour Synesthesia, Variation IV, 2013, shown at the Venice Biennial 2013, the video projection included the sculptural works Universals. Installations have also taken place as part of festivals such as Dallas Aurora, Rencontres Internationales and NordicDeLight London. Installations in Cathedrals and Churches as part of architectural installations, have taken place at Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin Mary, Dallas (2013), St Pauls Methodist Church, Dallas (2015) and St Brigids Cathedral, Ottawa, Canada. (Deconsecrated) (2011).
Color Synesthesa VI – XI, (2014-2021) all incorporate the sound of legendary polymath Catherine Christer Hennix, who Senstad also collaborated with for 10 years until her passing in 2023. The video series alters color sequences, shapes and length, in concert with the sound composition. In Color Synethesia VI (2014), the longest of the works in the series, incorporates Hennix’s recording Single Tamborium (Blank Forms), creating an in-depth meditative spatiality and intensity of sound and color. The work was exhibited at Bærum Kunsthall in Norway in 2016, and Good Children Gallery in New Orleans in 2017 as part of Senstad’s exhibitions. The work is dedicated to exhibition spaces, institutions, site specific installations, and museums.
