"The film overrides the viewer's normal information accepting mechanisms. Sometimes the information rate is very high, overloading one's capacity to process the information, causing the viewer to focus in order not to become disorientated. Sometimes the rate is very slow, so one must look more deeply into the image or get bored. These information rates are played back and forth against one another causing the visual system to override the cognitive system.
