About
The earlier films CHICKEN, STORK & FLUKE play with wonderful, wacky abandon and a hearty sense of humor that permeate much of Breer's film, painting, and sculpture. Highly kinetic, and full of absurd juxtapositions, these works delight, but in their way keep more distance from emotion and personal revelation. SPIRAL continues this powerful but easy sense of collage, the layering of ambient sounds. image, and certainly the disdain for techno- fetishism, but SPIRAL hits one with a far more introspective and personal projection. Although Breer relies on these same processes, her system or rather instinct, for putting images together and creating sequences combines with images that engage on a more visceral level, resulting in a film that is, in fact, a spiraling in, a microscopic view, a peering inside. – Robin Dickie, Collective for Living Cinema
