About

BLU & YELLOW RICE is an experimental animation in which 3D characters, who live on the Internet and in the Sea, tell stories. The characters engage with the question of performance as a self-reflexive act by activating the personal as the political. They inhabit the space of the cyber post human, as people who have corporate branding as skin but tell sentimental heartfelt autobiographical stories of homelessness and death. Presenting the dance of the consumer, who is at once consumed and confounded by the paradox of authenticity through Play. The piece asks us in this way to look to modes of communication and ask: Who do we speak for and why? These stories come from my own life as a young person growing up in the Pacific North West of the United States. They are framed by appropriated text and footage from the Internet, which relay a first hand account of the Native American Water Protectors struggle at Standing Rock. Through the juxtaposition of language and Image all of these struggles move in conversation with one another. The “Sea” becomes the digital landscape that relates our appropriated artificiality to nature.
